Children's Mask User Testing Booklet

When testing any prototype, we needed a standardized system that allows users to record their thoughts and experiences. And in the case of the “Cloth Face Mask Development for Kids with Improved Fit and Usability Features,” research project, this booklet provided a solution. Created to guide each user through the remote testing process, both booklets provide details on the anatomy and usage of each design, fun child-friendly questions about each time the mask was worn, and a parents section for a more in-depth analysis.

The Process

It begins with asking the right questions. While the booklet needed to account for contextual and experiential information, there was also a need to record the user’s adjustment to the mask with time. With every spread covering one mask usage, a repeating ranking method was used to track how the mask has grown onto

the user, as fun questions from making emojis to coloring were used to express the experience and learn more about the user themselves. Because this experiment was done remotely and independently, we had also implemented a checks and balances system by inviting the user’s parents to fill in the gaps of the experience.
