Co-Founding Team Lead for Studio Ren

Napa, CA | January 2023 - June 2023

Designed to be a safe space for creative expression, Studio Ren is an experimental community of designers, makers, photographers, and musicians expanding the possibilities of sustainably creating and giving back. Here, I breakdown our visions and goals into actionable steps, design internal infrastructures for workflow with respect to different mediums and creative styles, and strategize project timelines.

Art and Science Mobile Volunteer for We Love Our City

Vacaville, CA and Fairfield, CA | October 2021 - May 2022, October 2022 - March 2023

Every Saturday morning, I teach arts and crafts to children in low income neighborhoods. Being a part of a small team, the mobile provides art supplies and a pop-up space for children to explore art, science and its intersection in the comfort of their neighborhood. Beyond teaching various mediums, setting up and tearing down, however, I’ve honed into meeting the needs of children (and parents) in their creative expression, while also building and fostering a safe community anywhere.

Assistant Design Researcher for the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis

Davis, California | January 2021-June 2021, October 2021-March 2022

As a Research Assistant for ITS’ Consumer Energy Interfaces (cEnergi) and Adapting City Lab, I translated research findings into easily digestible graphics and participated in interviews with industry experts. I worked closely with Professor Beth Ferguson in creating visuals while also providing notes and insights from both interviews and research for the  Lake Merritt & MacArthur BART station’s Mobility Hub proposal, ArcGIS and static Bay Area maps for the now published  Micromobility case study, as well as designing educational graphics for the Designing with the Sun chapter in “Handbook of Best Practices in sustainable Development at University Level”.

Graphic Designer for The Father’s House

Vacaville, California | October 2021-March 2022

As a Research Assistant for ITS’ Consumer Energy Interfaces (cEnergi) and Adapting City Lab, I translated research findings into easily digestible graphics and participated in interviews with industry experts. In a span of 6 months, I worked closely with Professor Beth Ferguson in creating visuals while also providing notes and insights from both interviews and research, for the  Lake Merritt Mobility Hub proposal, ArcGIS and static Bay Area maps for the now published  Micromobility case study, as well as designing educational graphics for the Designing with the Sun chapter in “Handbook of Best Practices in sustainable Development at University Level”.

Intern for Gray Area

San Francisco, California | September 2021 - November 2021

I assisted the Gray Area team in two main events, Gray Area Festival: Worlding Protocol and Nocturne X. For Nocturne X, I took part in the installation of the show, pitched and created social media content for both Tiktok and Instagram, and created graphics for “ICARUS: Lost in Space”. While for the festival, I designed a graphic for “NFT DIY: Mint Your Art!”, and provided research and teaching support during its presentation (this was also later presented in Miami’s Art Basel 2021 by Niki Selken). I also aided in the creation of email and social media content, updating website information and monitoring workshops and livestreams.

Undergraduate Design Researcher for WearLab at UC Davis

Davis, California | September 2020-March 2021

Along with Professor Gozde Berk and a fellow undergraduate researcher, we researched ways of improving children’s masks (5-10 years old) through the Cloth Face Mask Development for Kids with Improved Fit and Usability Features project, which was funded by the UC Davis Environmental Health Sciences Core Center Seed grant. Having contributed to the project from its start, I interviewed both children mask users and their parents, ideated through sketches, and prototyped various mask shapes and features to solve for the issues highlighted by users. Together, we created two new mask designs which were tested on our prior interviewees before finalizing the design. To aid users in this testing process, I’ve designed two children-friendly ethnographic booklets (one for each design) that allowed users to record their daily experiences quickly and enjoyably.

Exhibition Designer for Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art

Davis, California | January 2020-March 2021

In partnership with the Kramlich Collection, a group of student designers along with myself worked with Professor Brett Snyder to design the museum’s first video art exhibition. I designed a layout that became the foundation of the exhibit’s finalized layout. It takes the artists’ requirements and the curator’s vision into account, while still communicating the overarching theme of information dissonance throughout the show. As a team, we ideated and pitched various interpretive graphics and interactive elements to the museum’s internal team through 3d and 2d renderings. Beyond the exhibit, however, I designed the museum’s custom modular gallery seating that is booth ADA compliant and could be manufactured in-house with a CNC machine.

Co-Founder, Co-Host, Editor and Graphic Designer for Midnight Talks with Izzy and Jo

Napa, California | May 2020-November 2020

As an experiment into the podcasting world during the early days of the pandemic, Midnight Talks is a comedic auditory experience aimed to capture the fun and serious sleepover-like conversations to provide a sense of community in isolation. With weekly 20-30 minute episodes recorded remotely, and custom Instagram posts and stories each uploaded 3x a week, we have garnered 1,000 plays (spanning our 26 episodes) from an international audience listening from 25 different countries.

Student Fundraiser Designer for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at UC Davis

Davis, California | March 2019-March 2020

Under the leadership of the chapter’s staff, I designed fundraising products and experiences, creative directed a team of student leaders and managed quarterly fundraisers to raise money for student mission trips, as well as the chapter’s events and resources. Our fundraisers included designing and outsourcing the production of custom shirts and stickers that are aligned to InterVarsity’s values, as well as ideating designing and coordinating interactive installations and decorations that elevate the chapter’s private galas and campus-wide events.

Project Manager for Napa Makes

Napa, California | February 2019-June 2019

In this annual artisan event celebrating Northern California makers to fundraise for The Oxbow School, I worked closely with each founder in completing tasks to ensure that the event ran smoothly, ranging from the event’s marketing and logistics to the sharing and curation of student artist works for the Maker Scholarship. Beyond the day-to-day tasks, however, I also recruited, managed and designed with a small team of UC Davis student designers in the creation of a recycling installation. Together, we designed a game of Making and Talking Challenges for visitors. While the Talking Challenges encouraged players to create meaningful conversations, Making Challenges allowed players to create with custom puzzle pieces made of recycled plastic bottles.

Founder and Designer for Project Phoenix

Napa, California | November 2017- August 2020

In the wake of the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires in California, I founded an experimental project that fundraises for those affected by Northern California wildfires through pushing the design norms of leather cardholders. Within this project I recruited and manage an international team of creatives, created social media content, and led in the designing, prototyping and making of each product sold from hide to cardholder. With profits from our first two designs, we have donated $440 worth of gift cards to survivors of the 2020 LNU Lightning Complex fire.

International Student Ambassador for Napa Valley College

Napa, California | October 2017-December 2017

As a bridge between Napa Valley College’s growing international students and the college’s administrative staff, I played a role in building a more diverse campus community through planning campus-wide events, strategizing and launching campaigns, and collaborating with the International Student administration department to bring about structural and student-centered improvements.

Media Coordinator for Kumon Indonesia at Cipete

Jakarta, Indonesia | February 2016-December 2016

Beyond managing a small team of creatives in fulfilling the branch’s creative vision, I actively filled in any gaps of my team’s needs. Whether it is by being a graphic designer, or a photographer, I was involved in each phase of the creative process in various projects. Under my leadership, we have designed and installed multiple class posters, as well as reigniting and revamping the branch’s children-centered monthly newsletters, publishing 200+ copies every month.

Media Intern for Yayasan Pulih

Jakarta, Indonesia | June 2016-September 2016

During my time in this nonprofit dedicated to providing free psychological counseling to the public, I ideated and pitched various ideas to revitalize and expand their website to a broader audience, as well as creating multiple video and marketing content in both Indonesian and English, which I then pitched, produced, casted, directed and edited into actualization.

Freelance Photographer for The Chimes at Biola University

La Mirada, California | August 2015-December 2015

As part of Biola University’s student-run and award-winning newspaper, I would participate in pitch meetings and take photos of campus-wide events and portraits according to the article’s needs. My works have been published in four online articles and three print articles, which were then viewed by thousands of students, and received great feedback from readers.
