Cranium Otak Night Light
Designed for play, Cranium Otak gives the classic motion-triggered night light a fun twist. With its cage-like structure designed for 3D printers, users are encouraged to make Cranium Otak their own sculptural piece. By clipping a shape or a material unto it, users could fall asleep in a completely different world casted by their light, making Cranium Otak a customizable and imagination-friendly piece for any home.

The Process
I’ve always been fascinated by the power dynamics between the designer and the user. And in an age of customization and bespoke pieces, I wanted Cranium Otak to allow for personalization through play— I wanted to use my power to empower. Throughout the design process, I knew I wanted to push for an
experimental shape. And while cutting through the supports and the long print time proved itself to be quite the challenge, it became a sculptural piece unlike any night light. With a name reflecting upon one’s beliefs and the world they create, Cranium Otak was designed for the reflection of power dynamics through play.
