The Process
When designing for play, I’ve always loved giving players more autonomy— especially in games for children. Being in such an exploratory and imaginative stage of their lives, we wanted to encourage world building and storytelling through a new medium, mazes. Throughout each design iteration, it was pivotal that the player’s
“internal flow of inquiry” happens naturally with minimum barrier of entry. And in the midst of interchangeable grids and game elements, we had to find the right balance of providing space for customizations and simplifying gameplay.
